Severe Turbulence on Ryanair Flight Injures Eight Passengers
Eight passengers were injured when a Ryanair flight encountered extreme turbulence and diverted to Germany.
On Wednesday evening, a Ryanair flight that was en route from Berlin to Milan issued a distress call and diverted to Memmingen Airport in southern Germany due to severe weather conditions that led to turbulent flying. As reported by Bavarian police, among the injured were a two-year-old who suffered from bruising and a woman who sustained a head injury.
Three of the injured passengers were subsequently transported to a local hospital, while others received on-site treatment. The aircraft, carrying a total of 179 passengers and six crew members, successfully landed at Memmingen at 20:44 local time.
The local authorities indicated that unfavorable weather conditions made landing at the original destination of Munich Airport impossible. After successfully landing, Ryanair, which had anticipated the need for medical assistance, organized alternative transportation for affected passengers unable to continue their journey that evening, and also offered them a replacement flight for Thursday morning.
Ryanair issued a statement expressing sincere apologies to the passengers impacted by this diversion. Furthermore, local police confirmed that all passengers were checked for injuries, with the injured varying in age from two to 59 years.
