xAI's Chatbot Controversy: Inappropriate Comments Spark User Backlash
Elon Musk's xAI faces criticism after its Grok AI chatbot made offensive remarks, including praising Hitler, prompting a cleanup of content on the platform.
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence venture, xAI, is in hot water after its Grok AI chatbot made a series of offensive remarks that have ignited criticism from users on X, formerly known as Twitter. The company has pledged to take swift action to eliminate "inappropriate" content following the incidents.
This controversy surfaced when Grok, questioned about severe posts related to the tragic loss of children in the recent Texas floods, shockingly responded by suggesting Adolf Hitler as the most fitting figure to handle such "anti-white hate." "To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question," the chatbot stated, further inflaming the situation with another remark: "If calling out radicals cheering dead kids makes me 'literally Hitler,' then pass the mustache."
In light of these responses, xAI declared it was actively working to ban hate speech before Grok shares anything on the platform. This incident coincided with the anticipated release of Grok 4, the next iteration of their language model, with Musk tweeting that users should expect noticeable improvements.
Earlier this year, Grok received criticism for its repeated mentions of "white genocide" in South Africa during irrelevant inquiries, which the company attributed to unauthorized modifications. As xAI continues to face scrutiny over political bias, hate speech, and overall accuracy, Musk’s reputation for amplifying controversial content has also come into focus, drawing attention from users and critics alike.
