More than 100 individuals were swiftly evacuated from a prestigious residential tower in Buenos Aires following a significant fire that engulfed multiple floors of the building. Emergency services confirmed that at least 40 people received treatment for smoke inhalation, and several were taken to hospitals for further evaluation before the fire was successfully brought under control.
The blaze reportedly spread rapidly, reaching up to the 15th floor of the 50-story structure located in the upscale neighborhood of Puerto Madero. Alberto Crescenti, the director of Buenos Aires emergency services, reassured the public that the situation was managed quickly, minimizing any risk to occupants. "Fortunately, the evacuation was executed efficiently, ensuring the safety of residents," he stated.
Witnesses recounted the chaotic scene, with broken glass raining down from the building's windows. Resident Ornella Gril, age 30, described the urgency of the evacuation, saying she heard the fire alarms and promptly descended from her apartment. Former professional footballer Mariano Pavone, who resides in the tower, expressed relief that he and his family made it out unharmed. "I noticed the smoke and quickly left with my son and dog. Thankfully, our apartment remains intact," he noted.
As firefighters continued their efforts to manage the aftermath, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, raising awareness of emergency preparedness in high-rise buildings.
