Adrián Simancas, a 23-year-old kayaker, recently experienced a surreal moment when he found himself inside the mouth of a humpback whale off the Patagonian coast of Chile. While paddling through the Strait of Magellan with his father, Dall, he felt a sudden force from behind and realized he was engulfed in the whale's mouth. "I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, I realized I was inside the whale's mouth," he recounted to BBC Mundo, describing the "slimy texture" against his face and the dark environment around him.

Adrián's father, who managed to capture the incident on video, initially thought his son had suddenly disappeared before witnessing his remarkable return to the surface. After what felt like an eternal few seconds, Adrián resurfaced, realizing he had not been consumed but rather spat out by the whale. Dall Simancas, witnessing the ordeal unfold, was relieved to see his son emerge from the sea.

Upon reviewing the footage, Adrián was taken aback by the whale's immense size, a fact he had not fully grasped during the incident. "It made me nervous, but it also gave me a newfound respect for these creatures," he reflected. Brazilian conservationist Roched Jacobson Seba suggested that the whale likely engulfed Adrián inadvertently while feeding.
